As many as 29 million Americans deal with symptoms of restless leg syndrome. While fairly new in the public discourse, neurologist Dr. Pam Santamaria says RLS is a very real condition which has been around for a long time. She explains what symptoms people face and how they are treated. For more information on treatment options, call 1-800-922-0000 or visit www.nebraskamed.com.

I’m seeing a therapist for my depression and am not on any medication but I’ve been getting insomnia and wondering how that could be related to depression. Also I’ve been losing my memory pretty badly to the point I wonder if I should see a neurologist, it’s kinda scary considering I"m relatively young and so am wondering if that could be related to depression though it wouldn’t seem like it. Why would I forget things if I’m not happy, ya know. Any ideas?

I have daytime sleepiness and sleep paralysis, but I don’t think I have narcolepsy. My neurologist sent me to get a blood test because he suspects it….is there anyone else who has had this blood test and what can it tell? Isn’t it possible to have these symptoms without having narcolepsy? I’m afraid this type of diagnosis will hurt me in my career.

So I went to the neurologist today about my muscle spasms i had for a year, he says that i probably have restless leg syndrome because the spasms are worse more at night and i move a lot or i could have juvenile myoclonic epilepsy….. but to have the epilepsy, don’t i have to have seizures? I never had a seizure once, and if i don’t really feel like i have the syndrome because my spasms are bad the whole day, it just seems a little worse at night, most nights are fine…….somebody help please, i’m 16 years old if that helps you
A couple of months ago, I was diagnosed with having Hypersomnia and am currently taking 350mg of Provigil, which has worked exceptionally well to keep me awake during class, work, etc. . After further reading of hypersomnia, I had realized Restless Leg Syndrome was the cause. Ever since I was about six, I’ve had the symptoms of RLS: tingling feeling, urge to move, only goes away when moving or concentrating on something else like video games. The thing is, it occurs to almost ALL of my muscles not just legs or arms, but my neck, fingers, shoulder, calves, etc. I wake up in the morning just the same way I went to sleep. I feel like I get no energy at all from sleep. What am I supposed to do?? I also haven’t had the time to check in with my neurologist lately, but plan to do so soon for asking about RLS. What can I do sleep-wise to help me? Also dietary?
I am not getting checked for apnia.. just for narcolepsy. My neurologist is a sleep specialist. I asked him about hallucinations when falling asleep and he asked a few questions that I answered yes to and he said it sounds like narcolepsy. He wants to do a sleep study and the follow up day one too. Is it worth the money I’ll pay to get this diagnosis? it’s not like this diagnosis can lead to a cure… just modifications at best. Should I have the test or not?
