Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) symptoms in back and shoulders?

Restless in Texas asked:
I’m a 35yo man who, for the past 5-10 years, has experienced the twitching and tingling sensations commonly associated with Restless Leg Syndrome…though my symptoms haven’t presented in my legs, but in my mid-back. Like RLS, they are more pronounced when at night or when I am particularly fatigued. Similarly, the symptoms can be so severe in the middle of the night that they will awaken me from a deep sleep. In the past couple of years they’ve become worse — significantly worse. I’ve spoken with my doctor — an Internist — and she’s completely confounded by it, having ordered X-Rays and probably an MRI is on the horizon, she says. In the meantime she’s put me on ropinirole (i.e., Requip), and it seems to help at 1-2 tabs before bedtime. The thing that puzzling me is the fact that this is in my **BACK**.

Does anyone else out there have similar conditions/symptoms? Again, I’m looking for feedback from folks having RLS-like symptoms in body areas OTHER than their legs.
THANKS!

I have it in my arms. I’ve heard of a few others with it in their back. Someone with it in her face was reported in in a sleep journal a few years ago.
While it is most common in the legs, it can occur in ANY body part. There are some really good places to go for RLS info, such as We Move, the RLS Foundation, the So California RLS Support Group, and more. Also there are a few good books about RLS that also all say that you can have RLS anywhere.
Hope the ropinerole keeps working. Do be careful about taking more than you need and read up on a condition called augmentation (it’s a term only applying to RLS medications like ropinerole).
I used to have it on my arms. I haven’t had it in a while which is great. But sometimes i think it was just all in my head. RLS is such a complex disorder if you call it.
Yes it really runs up my spine…it is hell
I have rls in my legs. Sometimes in my arms in the middle of night. I do some girly push-up until I get a burn going and it usually takes care of it.
I take meripex which works pretty well . Sometimes I have to work out a little on the eliptical after I take a pill. Maybe you could try some stretching exercises. I think the problem in in all the junk that is put into food now. Also have your iron checked. I have hemochromatosis. Several people I’ve talked to with this has rls. Your about the age when it’s starts to bother you.
