today my 7yr old was diagnosed with restless leg syndrome at tx childrens hospital. we will be doing a sleep study within the next 6 months to see if he also suffers from sleep apnea as well. my main question is that we have been told for 2yrs now that he has adhd and tics. is it possible for adhd to be miss diagnosed and it really be restless leg syndrome.what his doc here didn’t catch was that he has had strep throat 5 time during this last school year and should have had his tonsils out accourding to tch. they did blood work on him today to test iron levels but are pretty certain it is rls

This may sound completely out there, but has he been checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Serum iron testing is a good idea. I am assuming they have checked his serum magnesium levels too. But, magnesium is mostly contained in the bone and serum testing is not always accurate. I have an electrolyte problem and my own physican discussed the issue of this with me. I had a magnesium and potassium deficiency over two years ago and was not treated. It got so bad, I got tremors and what looked like twitching. Also, it caused restlessness beyond belief for me. Restless legs, and restless arms. Does your son get leg cramps? So, if you want to try another avenue, see if the doctor will order testing to see if your son has a magnesium deficiency and check all his vitamin levels too. A regular pediatrician should be able to check for these things. Make sure you have him checked to see if he is wasting this in his urine. This is very important.
Here are two very good sites, that some friends that I need to catch up with online mentioned. If nothing pans out, then get him checked for vitamin deficiencies for sure.
    Peace

ADHD is often mis diagnosed because it is a quick fix. You can check out this website. It is a ADHD misdiagnoses check list sheet that you might find useful.

Here is another website that talks about the misdiagnoses of ADHD.

I have learned through my own personal experience that doctors and psychiatrists are very quick to diagnosis someone with ADHD. I was misdiagnosed with ADD.
