I couldnt stay still long enough to sleep and had to walk around the house and massage my calves and stretch my legs over and over. This hasnt happened in years but it did happen when i was younger some.
Can stress cause restless leg syndrome? What are other causes?
What treatments are out there for it?
Does anyone else get this? How do you get sleep? Even right now while im at work they are still feeling funny… im still getting the overwhelming urge to move them. I feel crazy lol.

I have RLS – I don’t know the cause – but I do know that stress will definitely aggravate it – My doctor told me to take 2 complex B vitamins in the morning and at night. It does help. And vitamin B is for Stress.
Mine comes and goes. When my starts I get up and hold on to a counter or chair and shake each leg vigorously – kinda like running – but you don’t go running obviously. This seems to help. Also try a warm bath right before bedtime.
Someone once told me to buy a bottle of peppermint oil at the heath food store and mix with my bath and that this would help. It didn’t help me – but it might help you.
Hope I help – It is an awful and aggravating thing to have.
RLS ( Restless Leg Syndrome) is a medical condition. It ‘s not ” all in your head ” which was, initially, believed to be. Experts don’t always know what causes it. It can run in families. If you have it, there’s a chance that a relative does, too.
There are some known causes though. It may be caused by:
1) Certain brain chemicals that are out of balance
2) Anemia ( low blood or low iron levels)
3) Other health problems (including kidney failure)
4) Pregnancy can cause this but, after giving birth, the symptoms often stop
Certain Medications FOR:
1) Cold and allergy
2) Depression
3) High blood pressure
4) Heart problems
5) Nausea
There is no test for RLS. But, your Doc will check your general health; your diet, exercise routine, symptoms. And, he/she may want to do a blood test to check your Iron levels.
As you know, RLS can make it hard to sleep. Good sleep habits may help. Tips:
1) keep your bedroom cool and quiet
2) Go to bed the same time each night
3) Get up at the same time each day
4) Set aside enough hours for sleep each night
5) Get regular exercise
Once you’re in bed, don’t force yourself to sleep. If you’re awake in bed, get up. Do something else for a while. Go back to bed when you’re sleepy. RLS symptoms tend to follow a pattern. They often occur in the evening and at night. They tend to get better in the morning.
There are 2 medications that are available to help with the symptoms. Requip is the most commonly used. If your symptoms persist or worsen, contact your Doc so that he/she can evaluate you.* I apologize for such a lengthy answer.*
I hope that this is useful and Good Luck.
