Is restless leg syndrome a ‘made up’ condition? Just so a med company can profit?

I TOTALLY see what you mean! When I first saw the commercial I thought it was a joke!
no its not. its a real illness. during the night these people feel things on their legs like tingling or a crawling sensation. it keeps them awake. ive known people that have had it, some have it in everyday life and i know a woman that had it when she was pregnant. so yes it is real, and its hard for people that dont have it to feel sympathy, but dont act like its not a real illness.
no, it is not made up. restless leg syndrome refers to a twitching or even kicking that is uncontrollable and actually interfears with sleep. please don’t knock other conditions ppl may suffer from that what insurance companies are for.

No, it’s not made up. Some people have trouble with it, particularly when they are trying to go to sleep. Melatonin can be purchased from a regular drugstore. It can provide relief.
There are differing causes for restless leg. Circulatory problems, nerve pain, muscular disorders, etc. It’s a general term.
is tourettes made up? just cause they do some crazy things, that seem unreal, are they making it up?

as with RLS my aunt has it really bad and she has tons of trouble with it, and for you to say it is “made up” is so selfish and insensitive. karma sucks, dude. karma *****.
it is a very real disorder and affects many! my X parnter had it and although he never complained in his sleep..i certainly did..because his legs never stopped moving and twitching..my aunty gets it bad and she cannot sleep while her legs want to run away! i have had it a few times its so irritating and you just cant get relief…sometimes its lack of magnesuim
It is very real, it’s tiring to your muscles, makes bones ache, affects not only the legs, but any part of your body. Obviously you haven’t spent night after night with uncontrolable spasms that yank your whole body around. The new meds help, but don’t work 100%, it is still often very painful. (they don’t mention the pain on the ads, but it is quite painful at times.)
Its real. My mother-in-law has it. Most nights (but not all) when she’s ready to fall asleep her legs start kicking. She can’t do anything about it. She does notice it a link to how stressed she is and she doesn’t take any meds for it. I think the med companies do make a bigger deal out of it than they need to just to make some money, but it is a great bother to those who have it. I am sure that noticing what triggers your restless leg syndrome and seeking out natural remedies or therapies would be way better than just taking the meds. Medicine treats the symptoms not the cause so you’d still have what ever ails you plus the nasty side effects.

No, it is not made up…..I have had it for a long time, since i was a child.
I have RLS and it is a very REAL condition. My father had it but was undiagnosed . I have had it for about 10 years now and it is a very severe problem. It is not just the occasional leg twitch that most people get in their sleep. It is a constant ( about every 8 to 10 seconds ) hard convulsing jerk, all night long , causing tendinitis in my legs, hips and knees. One of the causes is nerve damage caused by taking drugs like Benedryl for prolonged periods of time (which I did for allergies) Without warnings on the Benedryl saying that it may be a side effect there wasn’t any way that I could know this may manifest. People are probably more affected by RLS because MORE PEOPLE ARE TAKING BENEDRYL AND DRUGS THAT CONTAIN BENEDRYL….LIKE TYLENOL PM. So don’t judge the syndrome without knowing more about it.
You sound like those people back in the 1800s who diagnosed people as wasting away from nervous disorders before the identification of diseases like tuberculosis. Term “RLS” was coined in 1944 and there is documentary evidence of this disease going back 300 years – see this link:
One of my best friends has had RLS all her life and, yes, it is a real problem. She tried all of the major commercial drugs available, but experienced too many negative side effects (having witnessed this, I think all of these drugs are bad news). She finally got relief this past summer when she started taking vitamin supplements, specifically a multi-vitamin, an omega fatty acid 3/6/9 complex and an iron supplement in the morning and calcium/magnesium tablets and liquid glucosamine at night. We weren’t sure which of these supplements was the one that was helping so we did some research after the fact and apparently iron and/or calcium/magnesium are well known to help RLS and are highly recommended (by everybody except drug companies of course). My friend started taking supplements because she was feeling run down – she also had bloodwork done and her doctor told her she was anemic, suggested iron supplements and gave her an exact iron dosage and did follow-up tests 3 months later. I would suggest doing the same as it turns out that you can get iron poisoning if you overdose iron (as the human body cannot flush excess iron). Anyway, it has been several months and she rarely experiences RLS symptoms now.
Hell yes it’s real. Too bad you don’t have it to find out it’s real.
