Has anyone else tried a bar of soap beneath the sheets in bed as a cure for restless leg syndrome or cramps?

I’ve discussed this with my doctor and he has a log of patients it seems to help, including myself.
I have heard that it has been talked about on national TV shows also.
Interesting, I was told to open the bar and leave it such. And I have hear not to use Ivory or Dove also. Personally, right now I am using Tone, but may eventually try Irish spring.

I’ve heard that too, but never tried it. It seems like a placebo effect. But on a really bad night, I’d be willing to try it.
What????????
Yes -amazing isn’t it?We have been sleeping with a bar of soap between the sheet and mattress pad for 2 years.I was skeptical but wow-hubby doesn’t squirm like he did before. We heard about it in the news paper in an article and decided we had nothing to lose.I thought maybe it was pshyco symatic and removed the soap for couple of days and he was all over the bed again. The soap stays put for the rest of our marriage.
sounds like an old wives tale, but some of those are known to work.
(my grt grt grandfather was an old country Dr, he said with enough soap and water you could scrub the devil out of anything.. this was at least 100 years before the discovery of good hygene to prevent contamination and illness)
I suffer from heel spurs and if someone told me sleeping on a bed of nails would stop the pain, I would try it. You just reach a point where you are willing to try anything.
I say try it… if it gives you relief it was worth it.
I’ve tried the bar of soap routine for RLS with no luck. I take mirapex now with so-so results.
Yes, I read about it in the paper and decided to try it. I got a lot of leg cramps and thought I would give it a go. From the first night I saw a big difference. It didn’t help with restless legs, but it sure did with cramping. I read that it can’t be Ivory or Dove soap. The soap must be unwrapped and must be changed at least every six months. When my legs start to cramp again, I know it is time for a fresh bar. I told my brother about it, but it did not help him. Strange isn’t it?
Dr Gott is who wrote about it first. According to him (at least in the column I read by him), it only helps with leg cramps, not with RLS.
I know of no one that it helped; many people talk about it at one of the RLS discussion boards, but they pretty much all conclude that it doesn’t help the RLS much, if at all. Or course, in research they’ve noted that for some reason, people with RLS are highly likely to respond to a placebo effect (more than other conditions). So, it’s very likely that for the people it does work for it’s placebo effect. But, heh, that’s still working!
I’ve heard of it, but I’ve found that it does not work for me…it’s like a placebo. The only thing that works for me is medication.
Namaste & Hello,
I’m Ravishankar from India. I’m a Qualified & Practicing Yoga Therapist & Acupuncturist. I’ve also been traditionally initiated into our ancient Ayurvedic System of Nadi Pariksha (Ayurvedic Pulse Diagnosis).
I can help you solve your problem but I may have to ask you a few questions, if necessary, to ascertain the cause of the symptoms you are facing. Your response will help me help you.
Cramps happen due to many reasons. Understanding the symptoms is very important in the first place. treating cramps alone is not the solution. Understanding the cause will ensure cramps do not occur.
Yes, some sorts are easy, others stubborn depending on how deep & where all the cause has percolated, causing other symptoms. Then, treating or curing online will be difficult & definitely inadvisable. Then a one to one, face to face consultation is the best alternative. Either ways, there is a cure. And with a little more treatment, all other symptoms that are associated will also disappear making a person healthy for life.
These kinds of symptoms are also lifestyle driven. In the sense that, the way we eat, what we eat which is agreeable to our constitution, timings of sleep & getting up, & also our eating procedure. All these are key issues to be dealt with. My science says, if you keep doing what you are doing, you’ll keep getting what you’ve been getting.
Human beings have different constitutions. when these symptoms are matched with the constitution, a proper diagnosis of the cause is made, & when treated, the cramps can be very easily cured.
Can you please write all your symptoms to me? (egs. are stiffness of calf muscles, or of the neck or shoulder bridge region, stiff back, gas formation etc. ) Let me know this & your problems will be taken care of.
