i did marry the skeleton asked:
I’ve had restless leg syndrome for years now. It occurs mainly when i am trying to sleep. I deal with it, although it gets annoying. I love tattoos and have them on my arms, I am looking to get my legs done, however, I am scared that during the session my legs may begin acting up. Any ideas of vitamins or foods or anything that may calm my legs so I can get the tattoos and decent sleep as well?
Thank You!

That doesnt sound like RLS, it sounds more like muscle spasms if they occur out of the blue while you’re getting tattoos done.
Take a muscle relaxer.
There is a medicine for this, but I can’t remember what the name of it is. Your doctor should know.
It is very unlikely that you would have problems during the tattoo sessions. you don’t fall asleep during that, do you???
I remember seeing an ad on TV about a new product some time ago, but I can’t remember the name. Your doctor should know or a druggist, since it is fairly new on the market.
I used to have RLS, but! I was told that I was low on iron, nearly anemic, so took iron as a supplement, & one of the benefits from that is my RLS went away! & Since then, I have read articles that it is considered an ailment based on the need for iron, as supplemental. It’s worth a try! Try is, & let us know.
Two home remedies that I have heard about.’
One is take a teaspoon of yellow mustard right before bedtime. Something in it helps stop the tingling. Never heard anyone say it works but it was recommended on a site.
Second one works but this sounds crazy. I know three people who swear by it.
Take a bar of soap and put it at the foot of your bed, under the sheets. Make sure the soap touches your ankle or calve and make sure its not Ivory. Any other soap will do but not Ivory. I know this sounds crazy but it works.
Another thing, don’t wear anything binding around your waist like tight panties, hose or jeans. When going to bed wear only loose clothing.
A couple of things that sometimes help with RLS are stretching exercises and taking a daily magnesium supplement at bedtime.
For those who offered advice, the reason RLS might happen during a tattoo is because the person would be resting. Rest brings on RLS. I had it when I was getting my wisdom teeth extracted- I was relaxed, medicated, and here came the RLS. So, it’s a wise thing to think about.
Not sure if you’ve done it already, but you could try going early in the day if you normally don’t have it then. You could also try asking your doctor for a one-time script of Sinemet or a low-potency opioid or tramadol. Any of these should control it for that session. Sinemet is a great RLS drug when used only occasionally – say less than 3 or 4 times a week. It should not be taken daily (so say the RLS specialists–taken daily it causes the RLS to get worse in about 70-90% of the patients. Fortunately, it does get better when you stop the medication.)
Other options are to take a game you can play – a handheld device. Mental attending during the day almost always keeps RLS at bay, unless you have really bad RLS.
