No matter How awake I am or how mych sleep I have ever time read More than two pages I pass out, This has been a problem for so long I can’t control it. Is there a diagnosis for this? Is this Normal? Does anyone else have thie problem? Is there a treatment for this cause coffee doesn’t work.

Narcolepsy is spontaneously falling asleep, so i dont think that you have that. i would just say that reading shuts down your brain(ish). in order to help it, try to do something that makes you more awake, like playing with a pencil or listening to music, while you read
Not at all. I do it all the time, and I`m not Narcoleptic.
I don’t think so. I think it just means that you’re ready boring things. Have you ever tried reading something you’re really interested in? Try that and see if you can stay awake. Also try drinking lots of caffiene while you read and sitting somewhere very uncomfortable so you don’t want to fall asleep or it would be very uncomfortable to fall asleep. I don’t really know how to help you other than give you suggestions. I can imagine, however, how difficult this would make school work. I hope for your sake that you overcome this soon. Good Luck!
I have felt very similar to you. For me i needed an eye test and glasses.
This did work for me.
I don?t think that this is narcolepsy in your case either.
If you had narcolepsy you would fall asleep in different
situations, not only when you are reading a book.
If you want more informations on sleeping disorder or
narcolepsy check out this page i found.
I’ve recently started doing this, for the past week or two. I’ll pick up a book I really WANT to read, but after a few paragraphs the urge to close my eyes becomes irresistable. (And no, it doesn’t have anything to do with the content.) It’s odd, since I can usually read books for hours.
It’s mostly been happening with books, but it can also occur spontaneously during the day at odd times, like walking down a hallway, or (shudder) driving.
When I do fall asleep, it doesn’t cure it. I’ve been sleeping at least ten hours a day, napping on and off. I’ll wake up fine and, then, a couple of hours later, bam. It doesn’t have anything to do with food, either.
I know I can’t be narcoleptic, since it just started a week or two ago.
I’ve pinned it down to one of two things:
1. I haven’t been taking enough Lexapro. It’s an antidepressant, and lately I’m down to about a 4th of the dose I *should* be taking. If you’re not on antidepressants, see about taking 5-HTP, Sam-E, or St. John’s Wort for a little while to see if it has something to do with your seratonin levels.
2. I might have diabetes. I’ve been worried about this lately… I’ve been getting thirsty, dry mouth, other symptoms that might be the beginning of diabetes. One is a little trouble focusing my eyes, that comes and goes; maybe reading is too much effort? Look up the symptoms and see if this might be a potential problem for you. Hope not!
In any case, if it’s an eye thing, taking fish oil and a multivitamin might pin it down for you.
Good luck.
That is how my symptoms were too….I would recommend asking your doctor to sign you up for a sleep study. The reading material probably doesn’t make a bit of difference…it didn’t for me. You aren’t crazy! Get it checked out!
