Episode 1 of The Eco Tourist, my very home-shot/edited series documenting a 3 week volunteer conservation trip to Thailand where my travel partner and I will work with the endangered Asian elephant. Told from the perspective of two Hollywood-based high raw vegans working in the film/television industry, in this first episode, we jet set to Bangkok, Thailand. While on this 24 hour flight I decide to write an article about How To Avoid Jet Lag Naturally, which you can actually read in my award-winning column in EcoHearth online magazine: ecohearth.com ecohearth.com tonyakay.com http

First of all it isnt a medicine but a natural molecule the effects of which and is innocuousness are very well known. Its present everywhere (in the vegetables, in the milk, in all living beings). Melatonin just protect the pineal gland, indirectly restoring the youthful hormonal rhythms. Its lack represents an important signal of growing old. When the level of melatonin get less, we grow old. The principle on which the melatonin is based isnt of pharmacology nature; it consists instead in creating a nightly peak, more or less at the same time every night. Melatonin is proper for: favouring a good sleep regulating sleep watch cycle natural antistress against the wrinkles it protects from tumors and from cardiovascular illnesses. Entry from: York, United Kingdom Entry Title: “Perfect day in York” Entry: “Hello dear friends, Many thanks for your notes and comments, and for accompanying me on this journey. today is a “Twofer” – Sunday and Monday combined. It was a perfect day in York today – the weather was spectacular, and with equal parts serendipity and planning, the day unfolded perfectly. But first, let me tell you about yesterday. Cousin Bev and I agree: the second day of jetlag is the low point, a mixture of thick mental fog and drag bum. The only remedy for Day 2 is not to expect too much. It was a lovely day, so I walked around the wall of York. It’s about 3 miles around, and affords some fantastic views of the town, as well as the opportunity to view the gardens of the homes along the way. There are a couple of places where parts of the wall are incomplete, and I lost the wall for a while, but enjoyed the detour through the little streets and snickleways of the old city of York. In the afternoon, I caught the train out to Knaresborough; my friend Pat’s daughter Brenda lives there. It was really great to see Brenda’s home, enjoy a home-cooked dinner, and best of all, good conversation. One downside of traveling by yourself is it gets tiresome having the ‘where are you from’ conversation over and over with a succession …

Entry from: Auckland, New Zealand Entry Title: “New continents and old friends!” Entry: “Somehow a day was missed in my journey from Santiago to Auckland. I left Chile on the 1st of March and somehow didn’t manage to arrive in New Zealand until the 3rd. Therefore missing an entire day of my life. I did think about writing to LAN Chile airline to complain but I thought better of it as the only way to remedy the situation way to travel back across the date line. And however much I wanted to return to the chaos of South America upon arrival in the over efficient, home away from home that was Auckland, it was also time to move on and embrace the start of a whole new part of my travels! Which I did with relish. The first major difference was that for the first time in 4 and a half months I was preparing to see a familiar face! Something I would have appreciated entirely differently 4 and a half moths previously when I arrived out to the continent of South America, without a word of the language, a single known soul and slightly lacking in the rucksack department. Arriving into New Zealand was like sailing into a world of familiarity despite it being my first time in the country but the language, the shops, the organisedness and of course the presence of Gisele made me feel immediately at home and …
Star Trek’s Captain Kirk talks about his documentary Gonzo Ballet, his album Has Been, his cover of Pulp’s Common People and his unusual remedy for jetlag as star guest of the Marbella International Film Festival, October 2009
2 years ago I moved to Korea from New York. Ever since then, I’ve been on really weird jet lag. I go to bed at around 2-5 AM and have to wake up at 6:30 for school so I’m constantly tired. Then when I get home I just automatically sleep without thinking about it and then I can’t fall back asleep at night. How can I get rid of this?
