today my 7yr old was diagnosed with restless leg syndrome at tx childrens hospital. we will be doing a sleep study within the next 6 months to see if he also suffers from sleep apnea as well. my main question is that we have been told for 2yrs now that he has adhd and tics. is it possible for adhd to be miss diagnosed and it really be restless leg syndrome.what his doc here didn’t catch was that he has had strep throat 5 time during this last school year and should have had his tonsils out accourding to tch. they did blood work on him today to test iron levels but are pretty certain it is rls

I’m almost 20 and for as long as I can remember I get pains in my legs mainly at night but also during the day. I do have restless legs occasionally when this happens. It also seems to happen if the weather is about to get really bad (about a day or two before). I went to a specialist earlier this year and he was not helpful AT ALL he basically just told me it was restless leg syndrome and I should just deal with it. The problem is that I keep having it 4-5 days a week now and it’s really effecting my sleep. Anyone with similar problems? Advice?
I know I definitely have restless leg syndrome, but is the pain apart of that. I get RLS sometimes without the pain or sometimes I get the pain without the RLS. Has anyone else heard of something similar?

Adults are not the only ones who can suffer from a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea. It can affect children as well. When children have sleep apnea they are not getting the sleep that they need to keep them healthy and active during the day.
The treatment of choice for this sleep related breathing disorder is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP). This airway pressure is delivered to the patient via a mask that fits over the nose and sometimes the mouth, too. Getting a child to wear CPAP can certainly be a challenge. Luckily, there are masks available now specifically for the younger sufferers of sleep apnea.
A manufacturer of sleep apnea supplies, Resmed, has a CPAP mask available for children aged seven and older, or who weigh at least 40 pounds, called the Mirage Kidsta Nasal Mask. It was designed with a child’s needs in mind and can be used with both CPAP and Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BIPAP). The Mirage Kidsta Nasal Mask does not contain any latex material, so there is no danger for those who are allergic to this material.
If your child snores at night or has periods in which they stop breathing for several seconds at a time, you should take them to see a sleep specialist for an evaluation. Untreated sleep apnea can lead to serious health consequences like high blood pressure and has even been associated with later development of diabetes. A CPAP machine and CPAP mask may be what your child needs to get the quality sleep that they need.
I have worked in the field of sleep medicine for 20 years and can give you some first hand information about CPAP masks. Visit my site for more CPAP mask reviews.

My husband was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea last year and has been trying to lose weight to help. He’s had no success. He started a construction job last march and has been eating better and has not lost one pound. We are trying to find out what could be causing the no weight loss after being working in such a labor intensive field..
Any ideas?

I read that hyperkalemia resembles sleep narcolepsy. I was diagnosed with sleep narcolepsy, how ever, a person who falls asleep due to narcolepsy is supposed to wake up refreshed. In a research study, (peer reviewed) they found the symptoms of hypokalemia to immitate narcolepsy. but i noticed one important difference. People with hypokalemia, don’t get the refreshing naps, but can have prolonged muscle weakness, (Which more resembles me) then sleep narcolepsy. I understand that pottassium plays a part in it. Does anyone have input? I am hoping i do not really have this, because it can be life threatening, where sleep paralysis in narcolepsy is not (unless one falls asleep at the wheel) but my sleep is more controlled then just instantly falling asleep. Any info. could really, really help. thanks
sorry, i tried to find the source, again. I thought i had saved it to favorites. Its not there. made sense to me though, because alot of the symptoms are alike. The study even found that during an attack, people REM like they do in narcolepsy. I wonder if alot of people are being misdiagnosed. If you want to find info on both just type in ” narcolepsy and pottassium and hypokalemia. You may be able to find it like this.

If I’m flying from east coast Australia to Scotland (it’s a 9 hour time difference and approximately 25-30 hours in transit, counting layovers), what should I expect from the jet lag? I’ve never done this flight before. I’m leaving in the afternoon and arriving at midday. How long should I expect to be a zombie and how should I deal with it?
