insomnia?

Regina S asked:

I have problems going to sleep. It seems like I am never tired. When I do get to sleep I normally wake up once or twice a night. Then I have troubles going back to sleep once I have woken up in the middle of the night. I never feel rested in the morning. I have tried sleeping pills and all of that. Could this be insomnia?

Someone gave me a bottle of it for my insomnia, but I don’t know what to do with it. Do I ingest it? Smell it? Put it on my skin? I am at a loss as to what to do.

I think my husband has narcolepsy. It’s unbelievable. After about 1 minute in the car, 5 minutes into a movie, just sitting there talking I’ll turn to him (after like 30 seconds) and he’s out. He would be totally awake before too. I get so frustrated and impatient. At first I thought he was just tired out or stressed. But even when we’re having fun, eating dinner, or he’s gotten LOTS of sleep already he’ll just pass out. It’s sudden too. His head just flops over and he’s asleep. And he doesnt remember it either. In fact, a lot of times he thinks I’m lying about it! It’s gotten too embarassing to deal with, and I think he might need a doctor. He fell asleep at dinner at a friend’s house! The problem is, if he’s diagnosed no one will hire him. He won’t be able to drive or do most things (even if it doesnt affect him in those situations). Does anyone know about this?? What can I do??
I didnt think it was related but he does have some super freaky dreams frequently (i thought he was wacko at first). And I dont know it it’s related but he does sometimes talk in his sleep (usually about abnormal things like battles or cannabolism–neither of which is he very interested in when awake, so i imagine they go along with nightmares) and sometimes he will sleepwalk cause I’ll find him in various parts of the house come morning. (this morning he was on the couch and yesterday he was on the living room floor, even though he went to bed both nights in the bedroom ON the bed). Weird huh? Sometimes I’m kinda worried he’ll get hurt or something!

Natural remedies are simple, easy to try and have no harmful effects. Problems like hangover, hay fever and jet lag can be easily treated using natural remedies. This article discusses how aromatherapy can be helpful in treating hangover, hay fever and jet lag. Just read this article and you will find a list of essential oils helpful in these conditions.

1. Hangover - The prime cause of a hangover (headache, upset stomach, lethargy, nausea) is dehydration, so try to drink plenty of water or fruit juice on waking and last thing the night before, if possible. Then try the following aromatherapy treatment.

First, make a cold compress to which you add one drop of juniper oil and one drop of fennel oil. Apply to your forehead and temples. Next, blend three drops of rose oil in 1 fl oz (25 ml) of a carrier oil and massage it into the liver area – the lower right side of your ribs and just below them.

Rose oil helps to detoxify the liver. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day is important as well as it will flush the toxins out of your system more efficiently.

2. Hay fever - This is actually an allergic reaction caused by the pollens of various shrubs, trees and grasses. Symptoms include sneezing, running nose and sore red eyes. Aromatherapy can ease hay fever, but won’t cure it.

Add six drops of hyssop oil to a bowl of hot water and inhale the steam. Alternatively, mix six drops of hyssop oil in 2 fl oz (50 ml) of carrier oil and massage it into your cheeks and under your nose regularly. People prone to epilepsy should avoid hyssop.

3. Jet lag - This affects you when your internal body clock becomes disorientated. It can cause changes in your normal eating and sleep patterns and is generally debilitating.

During you flight, drink plenty of water and soft drinks, avoid alcohol and eat little. Sleep if you can, and before traveling make up this aromatherapy blend. Add four drops of rosemary, four drops of ylang-ylang and four drops of lemon oil to 4 fl oz (100 ml) of carrier oil. During your flight, massage it into your neck, face and the back of your neck up to the base of your skull. On arrival, pour some of the blend into a warm bath and soak in it for at least 15 minutes.

Can I have sleep apnea with these symptoms?

chicabonita2181 asked:

I’ve been reading up on this condition, however, I am still not sure if that may be my problem. I do not want to go to the doctor for no reason. I was hoping that someone with this condition can help me find out if I do need to go see a doctor.

My symptoms are sleepiness during the day. Some days I am so sleepy that I am irritable and just not fun to be around. I am usually tired like I had no sleep the night before or as if I had been doing a lot of work, which is usually not the case. I cannot remember a night when I got less that 8 hours of sleep. I usually get 8 to 10 hours every night. Mostly 9 or 10. However, when I get up, I am dizzy and tired and I definitely do not feel well rested. I think twice before getting out of bed because I still feel tired. When I do get up I do not usually feel sleepy then, only tired. It is during the course of the day that i become sleepy. Sometimes very sleepy that I have to get up and do something or I will fall asleep. I am always tired.
I forgot to add that I do not snore, at least I don’t think, but I really don’t think so.

Medical science, oral traditions and alternative therapies offer the possibility to choose from various ways to cure insomnia. Though the first option may point to science, sleeping pills fail to treat the real problems that cause sleeping disorders, and this is why it is so important to use combined solutions and ways to cure insomnia. For instance, before trying any sleeping pills for instance there are lots of tips and home remedies you may use in order to induce a healthy and restful sleep. Keeping a close watch on your life style may lead to a better management of stress and a lowering of the number of sleepless nights.

Almost all ways to cure insomnia converge in the point where they militate for a healthy kind of life; give up late heavy meals, do a lot of physical exercises, spend as much time in open air as possible, and avoid all nervous simulators such as caffeine or energy drinks. These are the more general ways to cure insomnia by actually helping one to stick to very healthy programs and positive behavior patterns. Then, there come the more particular ways to cope with the problem, and they involve some advanced formulas to create sleepiness. Many people turn to yoga techniques and meditation in order to achieve the right relaxation state necessary for quality night rest.

Herbal extracts, aromatherapy, massage, music and self-control techniques are other ways to cure insomnia. Let’s take for example music therapy: this involves the use of soft melodic lines that eliminate nervous tension and create a state of well being. Crystal sounds, piano, violin, harp or exotic Asian musical instruments are often used to fight back stress. The only condition is for the success of such ways is that you let yourself carried away by music, putting aside all worries and bothering thoughts from the very mundane existence. After all, sleep should be a detachment from the stressful, intense activities we carry on in the wake state.

Unlike for other health conditions, the ways to cure insomnia are complementary, they do not interfere with each other, and they are free of side effects. Therapists usually recommend the creation of special patterns both at day and at night, since the brain acts better according to set tracks than randomly, particularly where sleep is concerned. For instance, the habit of taking a nap in the afternoon that is so useful for children, may be totally detrimental during the adult life. This is explained by the lower sleep necessity of a grown-up as compared to that of a child.
